This is a sad news to all tanzanians. Dr.Masau has died at Agha khan hospital in Dar es salaam.
The founder of Tanzania Heart Institute was Dr. Ferdinand B. Masau, who had dedicated his life to the establishment of a cardiovascular center in his native country of Tanzania. Dr. Masau was trained in Houston, Texas as a cardiovascular surgeon under the tutorage of world renowned cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Denton A. Cooley at the Texas Heart Institute and Texas Children Hospital. His sole purpose was to bring this training back to his country and create the first heart center in East Africa. He provided leadership and surgical services in Tanzania with the support and assistance from visiting specialists from around the world.
THI has employed professionals from both inside and outside the country. Cardiovascular surgeons, Cardiologists, ICU nurses, Pharmacists, Researchers, Anesthesiologists and others are some of staff members that qualify for their professionals accordingly. THI has part-time doctors from neighbouring hospitals in various fields such as Urology, Neurology, etc.
The death of Dr. Masau adds another gap in the medical field. Few months has just passed since the deaths of two paediatric surgeons in tanzania.
